What the Director, Data Privacy Does at Worldwide  

The Director, of Global Data Privacy is responsible for the oversight and execution of Worldwide’s GxP Data Privacy Program and serves as a subject matter expert in data privacy as applied to GxP processing activities and co-regulatory frameworks  The Director, Global Data Privacy reports to the Vice President, Global Compliance and Data Privacy

Tasks may include but are not limited to:

Program & Governance Responsibilities:

Privacy management is most effective as an organizational capability All employees are responsible for complying with laws and managing privacy risks effectively in their daily work The Director of Global Data Privacy is responsible for developing and implementing new Data Privacy program solutions and improving existing solutions that can be shared with employees worldwide based on the following:

  • Provide scalable solutions through effective models and frameworks to support a growing business operating in 70+ countries
  • Put actionable information in the hands of employees and decision-makers; ensure the information is accessible and in usable form
  • Develop effective education and training and deliver to the correct audience
  • Develop and implement effective metrics and dashboards and communicate with Worldwide leadership and employees to support continuous improvement, oversight, and compliance

Day-To-Day Support Responsibilities: 

  • Lead key initiatives, such as building and maintaining global Data Privacy/GxP regulatory intelligence, and international data transfer compliance projects
  • Develop and lead privacy training for GxP functional areas on best privacy practices and regulatory obligations under coregulatory privacy and GxP frameworks governing clinical trials (eg ICH-GCP, GDPR, etc)
  • Develop and maintain effective metrics (key performance indicators, key quality indicators, quality tolerance limits etc) for reporting to the Quality Management Council and VP, Global Compliance and Data Privacy
  • Serve as data privacy representative on GxP governance committees

Global Privacy Network/Continuing Education Responsibilities:

  • Build internal communities of employees with privacy responsibilities to improve organizational capabilities in privacy management and share privacy initiatives, regulations and legal updates, knowledge, and practices
  • Develop and maintain a sufficient understanding of the processing operations carried out, the information systems, and data security of systems used at Worldwide
  • Build external global network privacy professionals, attend professional conferences, etc to stay abreast of trends, best practices and industry benchmarks to leverage towards continuous process improvements of Worldwide’s data privacy program

What you bring to the role

  • Maintain a high degree of personal and professional integrity and professional ethics
  • Strong leadership skills, ability to work independently and as a team to build consensus across multiple tiers of leadership and diverse functional areas of Worldwide
  • Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, ability to build working relationships, and to communicate with key stakeholders, including senior leadership, clients, data subjects and regulators
  • Extensive experience with international business and diverse business cultures
  • Ability to comfortably and effectively interface with clients, vendors, (academic) investigative sites and regulators

Your experience

  • Bachelor’s degree; and/or a Juris Doctorate/law degree
  • 10 years’ experience in legal or compliance field with a multinational law firm or other multinational organization with at least 5 years’ experience in data privacy and 5 years’ experience in a Contract Research Organization (CRO) or clinical research operations division of pharmaceutical/biotech company 
  • Extensive experience advising on privacy and data protection legal, compliance and operational matters in the clinical research space, including but not limited to data processing agreements, clinical trial agreements, patient informed consents, and privacy notices
  • Prefer Certified Information Privacy Professional certification(s) (eg CIPP-E, CIPP-US, CIPM)
