Position Title: Supervisor, Sample Control

External Description:

SUMMARY: The Supervisor, Sample Control, is responsible for overseeing the life cycle of the study specimen from receipt to final disposition of the sample at Worldwide.  Study specimens are received for clinical and non-clinical studies supported at Worldwide. The individual will maintain good documentation of the process and ensure secure and well-organized specimen storage. The individual is knowledgeable in sample control and sample management functions and is responsible for managing and overseeing a team of associate staff within Sample Control.  The individual manages all processes associated with sample management and sample storage. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tasks may include but are not limited to:

  • Hires, trains, and supervises  new employees in all Sample Control functions
  • QCs and signs timesheets for staff as well as approve any scheduled time off.
  •  Ensures all required training is completed and thorough documentation is on file before an employee under supervision performs any job-related duties.
  • Responsible for the receipt, storage, tracking, transfer, and retrieval of study samples in Watson LIMs
  • Ensure the team supports sample receipt confirmation externally to the sender
  • Log in samples and/or oversee the log-in process
  • Perform the quality control review and/or oversee the process
  • Support Bioanalysis Scientists with organized and accurate sample transfer requests
  • Assist Bioanalytical Study Management (BSM) team with the creation of simple study designs as well as edits to the Watson LIMS study design to allow for accurate and prompt log-in of study samples
  • Assist BSMs in entering client Custom IDs into Watson LIMS
  • Assist in communication with analysts, BSMs, and other personnel in support of study log-in and sample transfer(s)
  • Audit and/or oversee the sample log sheets to ensure the log-in is accurate and in accordance with applicable SOPs
  • Manage sample storage inventory, generate storage and disposition letters and communicate sample storage inventory to clients.
  • Provide accounting a billing list in support of sample storage
  • Provide sponsors with sample disposition letters and update Watson LIMS with client responses.
  • Schedule and coordinate sample log-in priorities to maintain the flow of assigned projects and achievement of deadlines
  • Ensure study samples are archived off-site upon study completion, destroyed or returned as per Sponsor direction in a timely manner
  • Create or maintain records of sample transfers in the Watson LIMS Database
  • Keep sample storage freezers organized and clean
  • Maintain freezer calibrations and compliance
  • Respond to alarm calls (24/7)

  • Ability to create, implement and manage processes associated with sample control
  • Ability to manage all aspects of day-to-day operation in Sample Control
  • Communicate effectively internally and externally with all levels of personnel

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree with minimum 4 years of relevant work and management experience is preferred
  • A minimum of a high school diploma, or GED, and ten or more years of relevant work experience required
