What the Scientist, Genomics does at Worldwide

The Scientist, Genomics, works under the guidance of the Senior Manager, Leader of Bioanalysis, and the Study Manager, is responsible for genotyping samples to predict phenotypes related to drug metabolism and drug effect in clinical populations. This individual masters all laboratory functions, works with great efficiency, mentors new staff, and manages processes or teams.

What you will do

  • Understand and apply GLP guidelines in all aspects of work.
  • Use automated or manual methods to prepare controls and sample aliquots with consistent accuracy and precision.
  • Operate, maintain and calibrate the KingFisher Flux™, Tecan Genesis™ liquid handler, Thermo ProFlex™ thermal cyclers other equipment as required to perform pharmacogenomics (Associate II - Analyst V).
  • Operate, maintain and calibrate the Agena MassARRAY (Analyst IV-Analyst V).
  • Maintain positive control sequence library and order DNA from the Coriell Institute (Analyst IV-Analyst V).
  • Perform pharmacogenomic assays with high specificity and sensitivity.
  • Accurately prepare reagent solutions, controls and samples.
  • Document promptly and clearly all procedural processes.
  • Review data, recognize and report inconsistencies, and determine the cause and effect.

What you will bring to the role

  • Ability to read, execute, and understand complicated and detailed instruction or technical literature in order to plan, perform, and direct laboratory activities.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of automation equipment and software (KingFisher and Tecan), usually developed by on-the-job training.
  • Experience extracting DNA with high yield and purity.  Able to assess recovery using Thermo NanoDrop™.
  • Experience handling enzymes and expensive reagents
  • Experience pipetting low volumes and avoiding contamination in 96-well microtiter plate formats.
  • Experience amplifying DNA by polymerase chain reaction. 

Your experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, with a scientific focus, and five or more years of relevant work experience required.
