What a Director, Sales Development does at Worldwide

The Director, Sales Development leads a team of Sales Development Representatives, playing a critical role in the successful onboarding, training and development of new staff, and providing ongoing focused coaching, mentoring and training while helping the organization achieve our new customer acquisition and revenue growth objectives within their assigned region(s).  To be successful in the role you must have a proven sales background, strong understanding of the clinical trials industry, a passion for developing sales talent as well as have the ability to optimize inside sales processes, develop new training initiatives, and manage partnerships needed to lead the Sales Development team to achievement of quarterly and yearly goals.

 

What you will do

  • Provide line management support to Sales Development team members within the assigned region(s), including focused coaching, development training, providing real-time consistent feedback to improve productivity and skills and leverage tools.
  • Interview and hire strong talent for the Sales Development team
  • Support onboarding and training for all new Sales Development team members specific to the assigned region(s).
  • Partner with Vice President to execute strategic initiatives and lead generation tactics to drive pipeline.
  •  Partner with Sales Team Leaders to maintain effective partnerships between Sales Development and Sales Teams
  • Manage team performance to ensure individual and team goals are achieved and provide feedback on action plans and development opportunities
  • Drive sales enablement improvements to ensure the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of Sales Development practices and processes leading to optimum organization performance
  • Assist with the writing/creating and reviewing of team training and reference guides including playbooks and ensure relevance to the assigned region(s).
  • Lead team meetings and trainings along with the Vice President and Sales Development management
  • Work with Sales Ops and Vice President to identify and recommend process improvements and roll out new initiatives
  • Provide team reports, analytics and forecasting for the assigned region(s) to Vice President
  • Support and train Sales Development Account Managers with conference lead responsibilities
  • Partner with Marketing on campaigns and events specific to the assigned region(s).
  • Ensure SalesForce compliance in the team
  • Attend trades shows and other events as needed

  • Deep experience with CRM and strive to leverage other selling technology and tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to clearly and concisely present information on calls and via email

  • Must be adaptable, professional, and motivated
  • Ability to listen and identify pain points and customer challenges
  • Ability to work under pressure, stay organized, multi-task, prioritize, manage time effectively and attend to administrative details in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain effective internal and external relationships
  • Proficiency in all MS-Office applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

 

Your experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Life Sciences or related discipline strongly preferred
  • Prior outside sales/business development experience, preferably at a CRO or other vendor within the clinical trials industry
  • Prior insides sales/sales development experience – minimum of two (2) years of experience including experience in developing new business, lead nurturing and qualification, prospecting and appointment setting
  • Previous management or leadership experience, preferably managing sales development/Inside Sales Team
  • Understand policies and procedures, leadership principles, possesses excellent time management and project management skills and communicate effectively
  • CRO/pharmaceutical industry experience preferred including knowledge of Phase I-IV clinical development
  • Experience with Salesforce or other CRM and sales automation tools
