Position Title: Director, Global Corporate Communications

External Description:

The Director, Global Corporate Communications is an integral part of the marketing team who is responsible for proactively creating communications strategies and messages designed to engage, align, and inspire internal and external audiences around the world. The Director will do this by directing, writing, and editing emails, intranet copy, scripts, speeches, advertising and promotion materials, press releases, interviews, and any other communications.
In the case of an unforeseen issue, crisis or other potentially problematic situation, the Director of Global Corporate Communications generates communications to maintain a positive image for the company.

Reporting to the Vice President of Global Corporate Communications, and working with leaders in people strategy and culture, marketing, legal, finance and other top executives, the Director of Global Corporate Communications reviews public communications to ensure a consistent brand identity and message.

Tasks may include, but are not limited to, the following:

External Communications

  • Develops proactive communications, community relations and public relations plans and programs that support the organization’s vision, mission, and values
  • Works across a variety of external communications vehicles, including media campaigns, customer communications, partner communications, social media and C-level thought-leadership events
  • Designs and implements comprehensive external communication plan in alignment with the Worldwide’s strategic areas of focus and priorities
  • Works closely with members of the Corporate Communications, Marketing, Commercial and Therapeutic Area teams in ensuring consistency of messaging, relevant talking points, and integration of efforts
  • Helps guide Worldwide’s responses to emergencies or special circumstances
  • Builds and sustains online communities
  • Schedules media and press interviews for key Worldwide spokespeople as well as prepares them for interviews on behalf of the organization
  • Manage external vendors relative to external communications
  • Maintain and update as necessary, the Worldwide external communications style guide and related resources/tools for advancing consistent, brand-appropriate internal communications initiatives
  • Create qualitative and quantitative measures to evaluate the success of external communications programs
  • Direct brand, market research and industry trend analysis as needed to support external communications objectives
  • Manage communications budgets
  • Develop cooperative relationships with business contacts, journalists, public officials, government regulators and investors to maintain the company's reputation, while paving the way for future business partnerships and opportunities

Executive Communications

  • Confidently counsel executives in communication strategy, effectiveness, and best practices.
  • Adapt complex information and create clear, cohesive audience-relevant messaging to drive behavior change and strategy alignment globally.
  • Develop annual executive communications plan.
  • Develop and regularly refresh key internal message points to be carried forth by executives and cascaded to all employees, and ultimately included in all employee communications. 
  • Develop messages and scripts for employee meetings and communications.

Internal Communications

  • Drive internal communication strategies to ensure message consistency, internal marketing, branding, and employee engagement across the entire company.
  • Develop annual communications plan that is aligned to business goals and objectives and includes a calendar of consistent communications.
  • Develop tone of voice, messaging, and content for internal audiences.
  • Research and generate story leads, coordinate, and perform interviews, write articles, proofread, and perform other duties that support internal communications. This may include support for organizational announcements, management talking points, videos, scripts, speeches, company newsletters, emails, corporate fact sheets, executive biographies, employee photo gallery, surveys, and other relevant internal communications projects.
  • Manage all employee communications channels, including newsletters, town halls, Intranet, etc.
  • Develop/optimize employee communication portal/Intranet, ensuring the tool provides maximum value to employees through its functionality and content.
  • Ensure overall quality and consistency of messaging is seeded in all appropriate employee touch points and is aligned with the enterprise strategies and communication priorities.
  • Develop an internal communications dashboard to track key metrics around communications effectiveness in support of business goals and objectives.
  • Track and report all activities within the dashboard. 
  • Leverage data to make recommendations and decisions regarding internal communications strategies, plans and investments.

Employer Brand and Recruiting

  • Partner with the Global People and Culture leadership and Marketing teams to develop and increase awareness of the Worldwide Clinical Trials employment brand in alignment with the Company’s global market presence, supporting global talent acquisition and retention initiatives.
  • Support execution of the brand, including through employee communications channels and through the development of branding kits for key sites, employment advertising and recruitment events.  
  • In support of the employer brand, consistently prepare content to be shared on Worldwide’s external social media channels that feature employees. 


  • Knowledge of CRO and life sciences industry desirable
  • Experience in packaging information to convey a story to various audiences
  • Ability to craft and implement a comprehensive strategic communication plan
  • Excellent writing, editing and public speaking skills
  • Critical thinker. Strong organizational/planning or project management skills, including the ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines and/or rapidly changing priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively with local, trade and business media
  • Experience in handling sensitive and confidential issues
  • Knowledge of a wide range of communication and brand building strategies and tactics
  • Familiar with methods and techniques of distributing information to the public and print and electronic media
  • Experience working on an intranet or other online communications tools – design, functionality, navigation.
  • Fluency in multi and social media, video production and digital communication.


  • Maintain a high level of Worldwide Clinical Trial solution expertise and competitive intelligence
  • Proficiency in all MS-Office applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience working on an intranet or other online communications tools – design, functionality, navigation.
  • Effective communication/influencing skills with people at all levels, including ability to use tact, diplomacy, and persuasiveness (a high degree of Emotional Intelligence).


  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Advertising, Public Relations, Marketing or related field or relevant equivalent
  • Seven (7)+ years of experience in a related position
  • Proven ability to understand and apply concepts and best practices used in issue identification, message formulation, communication delivery, and audience targeting, including the ability to use analytics to gauge and boost readership and engagement.
