Position Title: IT System Administrator (UNIX Systems)

External Description:

SUMMARY: To assist with the maintenance and support of IT systems, particularly the UNIX and Linux systems which support Worldwide clinical applications.


This position will require a combination of strong technical skills and the ability to effectively prioritize, multi-task and participate in a wide variety of global projects.  He or she must exhibit technical expertise and ideally is a self-starter with the passion for IT infrastructure with a high level of flexibility, commitment and a sense of ownership.

 
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To be jointly responsible for the maintenance of computer network connectivity (hardware and software) reconfiguring as required to meet the evolving needs of the Company. To be jointly responsible for hardware maintenance.
  • To be jointly responsible for system software maintenance for both UNIX and Windows, and to install and maintain commercial application packages.
  • To be responsible for the monitoring and maintenance of the Storage Area Network systems (NetApp) used by the Clinical Platform.
  • To author in-house software for general and system admin purposes. To undertake the backup of systems as required.
  • To be jointly responsible for monitoring and maintaining system security. To source, purchase and install appropriate computer equipment as directed by IT Management.
  • To help develop and maintain the Company SOPs for IT systems.
  • To assist in the training of new staff.
  • To assist in the operation of the IVRS and other Clinical platforms.
  • Establish and manage user, system and administrator accounts on the network, ensuring compliance with policy and procedures for backup, archiving and data restoration.
  • Provide Tier 2 support for day-to-day management of infrastructure solutions, both internal and external (cloud), including firewalls, storage, servers, switches, network connectivity (WAN, LAN, Internet), SAN and backup.
  • Implement IT Infrastructure projects, keeping milestones on target and providing regular updates, communication and guidance to teams and upper management as appropriate.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Flexible, adaptable and able to work under pressure.
  • Knowledge of Computer System Validation (21 CFR Part11, GxP)
  • Proficiency in all MS-Office applications.
  • Be able to demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be able to demonstrate a methodical and logical approach to problem solving and the ability to learn new tasks quickly.
  • Possess good team working skills. 

 
REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5+ years of administration experience in a UNIX environment including Solaris 10 and 11, LDOMs, Zones, Oracle Hypervisor Server and ZFS.
  • 3+ years’ experience acceptable with a Bachelor’s degree in IT, Engineering or Sciences.
  • Administration of NetApp or other SAN systems.
  • Experience with Linux systems, Ubuntu / RHEL or similar.
  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or with equivalent on-job experience.
  •  A sound working knowledge of UNIX system administration.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP,  SSL/TLS, Veritas File System, Netbackup or similar technologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting capability for complex enterprise technical issues.
  • Solid understanding of Infrastructure services such as NIS/ NIS+, LDAP, DNS, DHCP, Apache, SMTP.
  • Willingness to manage network and data center maintenance or emergencies during non-business hours, evenings and on the weekend.
  • OCE or similar certifications a plus.
